A prenuptial (marital) agreement is a legal instrument that allows spouses to regulate their property relations in advance, both during the marriage and in the event of its dissolution.

What can the agreement include?

A prenuptial agreement may cover:

  • existing property

  • property to be acquired in the future

  • rules for income distribution

  • allocation of obligations

Why is it important?

In practice, property disputes are among the most common issues in divorce proceedings. A properly drafted agreement:

  • reduces legal risks

  • protects the interests of both parties

  • helps avoid lengthy court disputes

When is the agreement concluded?

The agreement may be concluded:

  • before marriage

  • at any time after marriage

However, it enters into force only upon the official registration of the marriage.
